Hot, Dusty, and full of mangoes.

So there are definitely at least 3 varieties of mangoes over here, and it is now my personal mission to try and discover even more. The season will be hitting in full force in about 2 weeks, at which point I can probably get like 10 really fat mangoes for $0.20. awwwwwwwwwwwwwwesome. Life over here has its perks.

In other noteworthy happenings, I will have a kitty as of tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot even describe how happy i am, to once again have a small mewling creature twitterting about my legs and ignoring me as he or she sees fit. Actually I have vague aspirations to carry this kitty with me on vaccination sorties through the bush, in hopes that he or she will get used to following me around somewhat like a dog. Will add an interesting element to my reputation if nothing else. Along similar lines, I also have a new chicken, and am hoping this one will live more than 3 days and eventually produce eggs and chicks. Unlike the others. Have to go track down the vet in any case, and figure out some sort of litter system. Perhaps sand.

Now then, on to the updating.
I am recently returned to Sabce, after having spent 3 weeks in ‘In Service Training’. The first week was spent on language, the 2nd week on NGOs and technical info? and the 3rd week on more technical info and some practical applications of said info. Altogether it was a fruitful few weeks, and incidentally made me realize that I don’t like constantly having air conditining. Try being inside at like 70 degrees, knowing that at some point you have to go out into 105+ heat. You walk out the door and -WHAM-  You are simply toast. Not saying that constantly sweating is an exciting prospect in itself, but at least you can come to accept it as a reality.
Then again this is coming from a guy who biked 40 miles with 30 pounds of crap on the back of his bike, so I may not be the best judge of the necessity of air conditioning. And i suppose I should explain the 40 miles of biking - one of those instances of doing something dumb and uncomfortable simply because you can. In fact i wanted to bike 80 miles total, but one of my tubes bit it hard after the first 40, so what can ya do?

Hmm, it appears I have used too much time on this computer, and must cede my place. Ergo, another update will be coming soon – lots to discuss, actually.

2 Pictures:
100_3333[1]one is during training, where I am acting out the role of a father-to-be who will not take his wife to the maternity. Baaaad Aaron. THe other peeps around are supposed to convince me I am being a terrible person. The guy in the blue shirt is from my village, and we are supposed to work together in general. But I don’t know if it’s a good fit… he’s an oddball.

100_3351[1]two is … aw nuts, I forget already what other pic I attached. Sadly I don’t have time to go back and figure it out, so it’ll be sort’ve a mystery until next time. Hope you enjoy anyway. If it is a picture with lots of women hitting the ground with wooden baton thingers, well, they are makinga new courtyard.
